It's such a profoundly bold statement in a film to admit that your main character... Is basically just like the rest of us. No one gets a cathartic redemption and no trauma is ever truly resolved in full. It's as unsatisfying as it is incredibly human and honest.

Just before she died, I saw Uta Hagen in a staged reading of WOOLF in its entirety. And she was MAGNIFICENT in a role 😅 had originated making her a legend in her own time. But I have to tell you something even with having seen that memorable performance there is something about Elizabeth Taylor's Martha that just can't be beat. Taylor had a way of balancing utter vulgarity with the most poignant pathos. She repeated that quality somewhat in the later REFLECTIONS ON A GOLDEN EYE. And let's not forget top-drawer Burton, Segal, and Dennis as each is individually FIRST RATE. "OK 'Stuff' let's go!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have seen Paul Scofield in A Man for All Seasons and I still can't believed he beat out Richard Burton as George in WAOVW. He displayed just about every human expression- and a few I have never seen before-possible. Burton was absolutely brillant and riveting.

i cannot believe all the comments about these men being gay. In my youth I often went skinny dipping with men and sometimes women. The vast majority of whom went on to heterosexual relationships.
